Last Chance at the Shack

Well, the shack has to be off the ice by Thursday so we headed out yesterday for one last Saturday of fishing. The weather was warm but overcast and we got some freezing rain in the morning so we set up our lines to be visible from the front windows of the shack and stayed inside most of the day. Not much action and it sounded like others were having similar luck. Probably close to a dozen shacks came off the ice while we were out there.

We overheard the neighbours talking about a small private fishing derby down at the other end of the bay. The winner took home $125 with an 8" Perch and second place won $75 for a 7" Perch. At least we don't suck that bad ;-) Damn! Even our little Pike would have smoked them!

Even though we tried, all we caught were two medim/small Pike (not pictured)

...and a bit of shut-eye.

Why's Louis always giving me the finger?

Shelby had a good time as long as she didn't have to stay outside for too long.

Oooh... aaah... shiny...

More Ice Fishing

We didn't get out last weekend because we went to the Sportsmen's Show to drool over boats instead. I also drove to Scarborough with Louis to pick up his new dog Shelby who came with us yesterday.

We spent most of Saturday out there, from around 8:00am 'til around 6:00 or 6:30pm. It got a little blizzardy a couple of times but it stayed very mild all day. The minnow bucket never even formed a crust of ice. The wind and blowing snow was a bit much for Shelby though. She spent a good chunk of the day sleeping on the couch or hiding in Louis' jacket.

We caught a couple small Pike and a handful of decent Crappie but didn't keep anything. All in all it was a great day.

The shacks have to come off the river and Walleye season closes on the 15th so we've only got one weekend left. Hopefully we'll get one more trip in. If not, we'll have to wait for Spring. Maybe we'll have to try Crappie fishing this year just to keep busy until Bass and Walleye open back up.

Anyway, here are a few pics.
