Back to the Shack at Petrack Islack

Headed out to Petrie Island again this Saturday with Louis and Pat, this time in the morning, around 7:30. Another great day for ice fishing. The wind was pretty crisp but if you could stay out of it, the actual temperature was pretty nice. Jeff came by for about an hour, late morning to drop of some fire wood that he brought from his cottage. He was planning on coming back out with his kids in the evening but we left before that, around 6:00. We were beat.

The fishing was pretty good. We caught seven Pike, all around 2 lbs and one 7.5 lb Pike. Pat caught a pan fish near the end of the day too.

The neighbours showed up sometime in the afternoon and I think they were a little jealous of our luck, especially when we told them that we were throwing everything back. Oh well, eventually they started catching panfish.

I pulled up the first fish and made Louis take the hook out but he couldn't do it so I had to get slimy afterall.

Here's a view looking out towards "The Village". There are a ton of shacks out here and the ice road is even plowed. This view only shows a fraction of the shacks off in the distance.

Here's my 7.5 pounder. When I pulled it up through the ice, it was all mouth, completely filling the hole. Pat used the slush spoon handle as a gaff to pull this bad boy out. I would have kept it if we were in the west end instead of the east.

Pat fishing. Here's another one of the 2 pounders. Good job.

It was damn hot in there.

How's the Bailey's Louis?

Hater.

Ice Fishing at Petrie Island

Well, for a while, it didn't look like we were going to be able to do much ice fishing this winter, but it eventually got cold and we got some ice.

Scott has an ice shack out at Petrie Island and it hardly ever gets used on the weekends so he gave me a key. Sweet ass!

Pat and I headed out to the shack on Saturday, early afternoon and fished out of some holes that had already been drilled right near the shack, within view of the front window. It was a beautiful sunny day, not too cold, perfect day for ice fishing.

There was a fishing derby going on but it was further down the river. There was a ton of traffic going by but not many people around us. There is a small village out on the ice that you can't see in these photos.

Louis and Daigle showed up to check things out but weren't dressed or geared up for fishing. They stuck around for a while and we all left around 7:00 - 7:30.

Caught one Pike, probably around 2 lbs. Here it is.

Here's a pic looking back towards shore.

Here's Pat chillaxin'.

Here's the shack. Inside and out.
